Indeed Background Checks

What was this?

I joined the project as it was pivoting from its initial MVP, driven by a new partnership with GoodHire, a background checks company.

This project was uniquely challenging. It required aligning with and deeply understanding the flows of our partner, GoodHire, and how to fit those flows into the broader user experience we were building on the Indeed side. It also required aligning with a separate product team outside of my org at Indeed, Employer, to get the appropriate messaging and links into the Employer’s Dashboard on Indeed.

The Problem

Our research revealed that background checks are commonly utilized by employers. We wanted to explore whether we could speed up the time from application to offer by conducting a background check on the job seeker ahead of time and attaching it to the job seeker's application when they applied for a job.

Our Solution

Use a third party service - GoodHire - to pre-check job seekers and expedite the time from apply to offer. I facilitated conversations with GoodHire, and worked with GoodHire’s product and marketing teams directly to improve the transition for Indeed users between Indeed and GoodHire.

Indeed Background Checks Designs

There were four main flows: three for employers, which involved signing up for GoodHire through Indeed, and requesting and viewing job seeker background checks; and one for job seekers to attach a background check to their profile.

Outcomes
Zigzag line

This project was sunset after two quarters. At the time, employers were were deeply entrenched with their existing vendors, coordinating specific combinations of tests to meet their unique hiring requirements. While having a background-checked job seeker was beneficial, employers still preferred to run their own checks, sometimes out of necessity, such as for government agencies.
