Ghosting Workshop

What was this?

Within three weeks of joining Job Today, I designed, planned, and facilitated a five-day Google-style design sprint focused on solutions to reduce ghosting on both the Job Seeker and Employer sides of the Job Today marketplace. Ghosting and unresponsiveness to messages were top complaints from both sides.

Incorporating the voice of the user

Ahead of the design sprint I pulled together user feedback to incorporate the voice of the user into our ideation session. Without a system and compensation in place to reach out to candidates, I scrappily pulled feedback from our NPS feedback, real chat logs in the Job Today app, external articles, and my past experience at Indeed.

The Workshop

Day 1: The product manager gave an overview of the opportunity space and I presented the user pain points. The we moved into ideation by listing out the problems and synthesizing those problems into our top “How Might We” statements.

Day 2: I led the group in a brainwriting exercise to generate ideas for each of our “How Might We” statements from day one. Then I synthesized the ideas for each statement onto our wall with stickies, and we voted on the top ideas. After voting, people pitched the ideas they wanted to work on to get others to join them. Four groups formed from these pitches.

Days 3-5: I supported design for 3 of the groups ideas and the groups worked on building out their different solutions. On the last day each group presented their solution in a company all hands.

Of the 4 ideas presented, one that I worked on was immediately implemented: a “Who did you hire?” prompt.

The concept: Present employers with a prompt when they close their job that shows all the job seekers who they chatted with about their open job, and let them select who they hired, as well as , an “other” option if they hired outside of the Job Today platform. If they did choose a job seeker from their chat list on Job Today, we would send a chat to the job seeker asking them to confirm the hire.

By the time I left Job Today - this feature had supported the reporting of ~3,400 confirmed hires on Job Today.

The Team

I planned and facilitated this workshop within the first few weeks of joining Job Today. It was a great way to dive right into the problem spaces they were facing as a company and get to know the team I would be working with.

Timeline

3 weeks - Gather user research, come up with a plan for the workshop, and incorporate feedback from the product manager and VP of product

2 days - Ran workshop

3 days - Provided design support for developed solutions and led presentation of what we accomplished during the workshop and demoing of solutions.
